Today is the winter solstice, one of the grand traditional Chinese holidays and also a solar term among the Chinese traditional 24 terms. Today, for the Chinese people living in the northern part will eat dumplings or wonton for celebration. Those live in the south will eat noodles or rice balls instead. From today, in the North hemisphere the daytime will become increasingly longer. Also, the coldest day will come. Are you ready for facing the following cold days?

Thanks for this insight into Chinese Culture. I am having trouble getting out of bed in the mornings since it is so dark and have been looking forward to this day. As you said the days will now begin to get longer and soon it will not be so dark in the mornings, but the cold........................I'm never really ready for that. It's been a nice warmish day here in CQ. Sun trying to shine through the fog and smog. Visibility poor.

Yes January is the coldest month here. And days will be longer. It is really bad to wake up to find the outside is so dark.

But a beautiful day in Sydney today. The sun came up arounf 5.30 and the birds sang. As I drove to work today with the roof of my car down, I thought "could it get better than this" Dodger.
