![]() | Do you make “New Year’s Resolutions” every year? Have you made your “New Year’s Resolution for the forthcoming 2008? The moment before the New Year’s Day is a time for looking back upon the previous year and look forward to the New Year. It is customary that we make New Year’s Resolution, a list of things that we are determined to do in the upcoming New Year. However, I am hesitating if I should make a New Year’s Resolution for the forthcoming 2008. At this moment, my mood is complicated: remorseful, grateful, sentimental and gloomy. Why? I have found out a truth that over the years, countless resolutions I have made in great earnest, are often to be forgotten by the middle of January. I am suspecting the legitimacy of making “New Year’s Resolutions”? Rather than serving some symbolic purpose, New Year’s Resolution should motivate us to move and inspire us to improve ourselves. New Year’s Resolutions should not disappear immediately after we take down the Christmas decorations and New Year’s decorations. Tragically, I am kind of forgetful in face of the “New Year’s Resolutions”. |

![]() | Looking back upon the past 2007, dribs and drabs of my life are still clearly visible in my memory. There are not only pleasure, applause, flowers, happiness but also gloom, frustration, tears and bitterness. I want to find several words to briefly sum up my daily life in 2007. Well, you know it is quite hard. If I have to, I think the following words can be kind of typical: sentimental, compassionate, emotional and sensitive. Perhaps this is the most distinguished transformation in my personal character. In 2007, I sensed the significance of friendship. Traveling enriched my experience as I have the opportunity to get close contact with the ordinary people living in the shadow of China’s dazzling economic landscape. I sensed the hardship of living on my trip for the first time. Remorseful I am, so much precious time has been wasted and so many foolish mistakes I have made during the year. There are a lot of promises made in the New Year’s Resolution for 2007 that I haven’t be fulfilled, which actually disappointed both my beloved ones and the ones who love me. To speak so many unwanted things out, my intention is not to grouch. All I wanna do is to move on. I don’t want to be trapped in the past. I don’t want to live in the shadow of the so-called former glory. I need to move on. Should I make a New Year’s Resolution for 2008? Should I hide my hopes and dreams away? I am at a loss. Fortunately, there are still several days left for me to consider whether to make a New Year’s Resolution or not. If that is in light of tradition and symbolic purpose, I will not make a New Year’s Resolution. Once a “New Year’s Resolution for 2008” is made, all the commitment must be fulfilled. |

![]() | Dear friends, in good conscience, the past year is not that awful. I have learnt a lot and met numerous kind and warm-hearted friends who support me along the way with their kind words of advice and encouragement. They helped me get through the toughest time of 2007. Herein, I extend my great gratitude to my friends and the acquaintances as well as these friends I have met on this forum. The last but not least thing I want to say: when making a New Year Resolution, bear it in mind all year around, not just during the New Year Season. We need to be motivated all year around, not just on Christmas Eve or New Year Eve. Think it over before we make New Year’s Resolutions. I am pondering. Well, before I decide whether to make a New Year’s Resolution for 2008, one thing I have determined not to do: I resolve to laugh more, and I resolve not to let triviality upset myself, despite that I have become quite sentimental in 2007. Anyhow I have to stop. Wish everyone a rewarding New Year! Have you made up your mind to make New Year’s Resolution? If anyone can offer me constructive advice, I will be very appreciative. I am open to criticism or suggestion. Leonardo, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! |

![]() | That’s very nice, Leonardo. You can express your feelings honestly well through your writing. As for me, my 2007 could have been better but I’d rather focus on the beautiful things that happened to me. Overall, life is still good, have a lot of blessings and the future is always promising, at least in my eyes. ^_^ By the way, as far as I know, there isn’t any rule that says you should definitely have a New Years resolution every year, is it? Personally, I don’t really make a New Years resolution every year. I make resolutions out of the blue or unconsciously anytime of the day. I just want to continue enjoying life and doing the best I can in anything I do and then just let life unfold. Live life to the fullest! ^_^ |

![]() | I have the same trouble. I make New Year's Resolutions every year. However, when it came to the end of the year, very little has actually be realized. Very sad. |

![]() | I have never made any New Year resolutions. I do however use the end of the year to reflect on what I was able to achieve and what I failed to do well. My year started out quite badly to say the least. I found myself six months into being single and my new business was very slow. But as they say “what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger” my year has finished on some very positive notes. My new business is turning around and I have found an unexpected soul mate quite out of the blue. I have also found this forum quite by chance which has helped me understand just a little more and I thank you all for that. I wish you all what you dream for in the New Year ahead. Dodger. |

![]() | I once made a New Years resolution to give up drinking and broke it within 15 seconds, doh, so I thought to myself why bother, that was 20 years ago and I haven't made one since. Like Dodger I like to reflect on my year and how it worked out, could I avoid making the same mistakes I made during that time, usually the answer is no! I still make them, it seems I will never learn. Maybe 2008 and is going to be a happier year for me, I'll drink to that cheers. Best wishes for you all in the New Year ahead Alan |

![]() | My New Year resolutions are always the same. Eat well, exercise more and save money; each year I do a little better than the year before. |
