Yes, China allows foreigners drive motorvehicles for tourism or competition purposes, and the time limits for temporary entry are three months. As far as i know, the course of application will be very complicated, let's say it will take at least 3 months for both prepareing the materials and applying for a series of permits.

I've heard(not necesarily from reliable sources) that China and Japan have limits on the sizes of bike you can drive... has anyone any actualy experience with this in China?

GUEST01174 Hi,
I'm planning the same trip (in 2009). I presume you would go via the Karakoram Highway to Kashgar? If so, just take out the map and find the highway starting in Islamabad going north. There you will find you're entry point.

As far as I have heard, it can be tricky to enter china with you're own vehicle. I would start at the Chinese Embassy in your country - they should have the information you need.

I'm not at that point in my planning yet - so I haven't been there yet...

When are you going?

Cheers,
Joachim
