2007 means a lot to Chinese stock market. This year, Chinese stock market has experienced its highs and downs. On Oct. 16, Shanghai Composite Index reached 6100 points. However, it didn't last. Experiencing its peak, the index fell about 20 percent. On the last trading day, it went down below 5300 points. Just compared with 2006, Chinese stock market was in its bull market in 2007, increasing about 99.66%. A survey reveals that most investors have lost money in the stock market. About 30% investors have suffered a great loss. Why? How do you comment Chinese stock market in 2007? Where is Chinese stock market heading for next year, still rising and droping crazily or just enter into bear market?

IMO, the bull market will last but not as bullish as 2007. This is just my guess. Perhaps it will be better than 2007 since Olympic Games is to be held this year.

I think the Olympic Games itself will have minimal direct effect, the amount of revenue it brings in is miniscule compared with China's normal bsuiness activity. The expenditure on investment in the Olympic infrastucture is more important so when that ceases there must surely be a slowing of the Beijing building sector. The stockmarket has been running a bit hot largely because 'get rich quick' gamblers rather than investors have been pushing the prices up too fast. However, behind that, the Chinese economy is surging ahead and increasing real profits. This is likely to continue even though the oil price is raising costs and the US will slow down. Another factor is that many foreign investment advisors are promoting investing in China so this will increase the demand and the prices. So if you invest in good companies you will make good profits and capital gains in the long run. If you want to gamble the risk is high as there are many more experienced palyers and too much insider trading, you risk losing more than you stand to gain.

Paul, it is said that about 50% investors in mainland didn't make money in 2007 though the stock market was bullish. Perhaps, they didn't have good luck. Buying shares is gambling and it needs luck sometimes.

No, I don't think it's a question of luck, too many were trying to make a quick profit but there were up against professionals (and some insiders) and many were destined to lose... inthe SHORT term. But except for companies that go bust, for everyone who loses a dollar, someone else gains a dollar so I am not surprised that you say 50% lost money, the other 50% now have it!!

Hehe, if all investors make money from the stock market, the market must be abnormal. Some people estimate that the Shanghai Composite Index in 2008 will break 10000 points. Really a surprise. Let's wait and see.
