I'm a 18y.o South African currently in Shanghai.. I would like to explore the rest of China but i'm an unexperienced traveler and would like a buddy to travel with me. I do not really have any definite definitions but i think a visit to Harbin is a must.

IF you want to find a Chinese to be your buddy, then it may be hard as the Chinese New Spring Festival approaching. It is very important for Chinese.

But I think foreigners can be ok. Be aware that harbin is
very cold now. Put on more clothes.

Harbin will be mighty cold around that time! I am also looking for a travel buddy starting from Hong Kong in late January but was planning on staying south (through Guangxi/Guizhou/Yunnan). Do you think you'd be interested in something like that?

Thanks but its a little late.. i have to return to South Africa for uni after the chinese new year.. Thanks anyways
