I have browsed a post on other forum. The author asked a question about the soul of China these days. He said that every country has its soul: the following is the author's original words:

" America has democracy, and to a lesser extent religion. We obsess over it, discuss it constantly, and generally try to shape our society based on it. China had communism. But now the country is in such a rapid transition that it doesn't seem to have any unifying principle. What does everybody think will emerge as China's new ideal? Will it simply be "work hard and get rich"?

What do you guys think about this issue? Does China have a soul at present? What is the soul of China?

As a posted here long ago, on my first trip to China the entire country had just one heartbeat. Today, there is chaos and no heartbeat that I can hear. However, the culture that created modern China is embedded so deeply in the language, that it will never vanish.

Has China lost her soul? Not yet, but her soul is hospitalized in critical condition with a cancer known as capitalism.

" Does China have a unifying soul or social norm?" My answer is: definitely not. China now has some very diversified( or diverted ) principles. In the past, the utopian Communism and Socialism unified people together. Today, China has been changing on many levels from a society in which authority figures (such as parents, government officials and schools) are expected to supervise and make decisions over every details of an individual’s life, into a society in which individuals make many decisions by themselves. To make it short, collectivism declines, and individualism is on the rise. Some experts say China is entering into a “Strangers’ Society”, which means people are becoming more egocentric and indifferent. They care less about others’ opinions, and are free to choose the lifestyle they like. Every Chinese has his/ her own unique life principle and ideal.Perhaps, China's soul is "Diversity" (diversified beliefs) or "Kaleidoscope of belief".

I am not sure if China has unified principles or not at present, but the governments' slogan is " to build a harmonious well-off society and actualize the grand dream of renaissance of Chinese people". Belief is a kind of motivator. In the western world, religious belief play a big role in unifying people: wheras China is country that is uninterested in religion. China's belief is " Marxism"?
