Hi

I need to get from Chengdu to Guilin. Ive seen some trains online but they take almost 24hrs, Ive heard there is a faster train.

Please can someone help me ASAP and advise if there is a faster train and how long it takes and where I can get information on this from?

If not then I guess I can always fly but would rather take the train.

Thanks

You heard? Where from?
There're no faster trains for this route.

It is one of the challenging decisions for a traveller: do I spend the money for air travel? Or do I spend the time for train travel?

In my summer trip, I flew between cities and then used taxi cabs and buses. It raises the cost of your trip substantially, but you get to see more and are less tired.

The trains are more probably the same quality (assuming you're talking about the same type eg T and T, K and K, so on and so forth) regardless of whether it'll be overnight or longer!

I took overnight trains from Guangzhou to Kunming and Kunming to Chengdu this year. I had no problems and the soft sleepers were quite comfortable. I recommend taking your own food and drink though.

How long did the journey take and are hard sleepers as bad as they sound?

Hard sleepers don't sound bad to me, and they don't feel bad either.
Look on http://www.seat61.com/China.htm for more information and photos of trains in China.

I presume you mean Chengdu (of Sichuan province), not somewhere else named Changdu?
1575 km by rail, 1485 km by road.
