China - Beginner Questions...

guest99225	Hi all, I'm going to the Paralympics in September in Beijing to support a friend of mine swimming over there. We're thinking (me and my girlfriend) of making a holiday out of it. We'll prob have about 2.5 weeks in total, of which I imagine the first 5 days will be used up at this event. This means we have prob 10-12 days to spare. We realise that China is HUGE, but just looking for some initial pointers really. Some more background: -The event is the first week of Sept, so we can either holiday before this (so end of Aug, start of Sept), or after this (2nd & 3rd week of Sept). -Neither of us have ever been to China - A "usual" holiday - we tend to look for holidays which are a mix of activities / sightseeing and chilling out. with say 12 days, we would normally do something like half activities / sightseeing and the half chilling out, maybe even at a beach resort. Some questions: * If you were us, where would you spend these extra days? * Will the weather be good enough to find a beach for a few days, and if so where? * If not, might it make sense to head further south, maybe Thailand or somewhere for a week?
