Internet is likely the greatest invention in the 20th century. The invention of network has shortened the distance of the world. Internet has helped the integration of western and eastern culture. By now, internet has become an indispensable part of people's daily life. Many work can not be done without network. If one day the network doesn't work, what should we do then?

I would be totally at a loss. . I can not imagine how should i deal with it. One day if it really happens, what should we do? How can life go on without internet? If the network doesn't work, could we become alienated again and don't know about others' culture?

The Internet is the closest thing that the world has to a mesh network. A mesh network is nearly impossible to bring down in its entirety; even if a path goes down, there is another path for the communications to travel.

There have been a number of white papers written about spreading a computer worm very rapidly through the internet. It would not actually bring down the network itself, but rather would flood the Internet with worm traffic and disable a large percentage of the servers on the network; the net effect would be to shut down the Internet.

Were something like this to happen, the internet would be restored in a relatively short period of time; unless the event was a prelude to some dramatic event, like a military attack.

People and business would go on without the Internet even though the world might get a little bigger.

So...do you remember how to use your abacus? ;-)

I agree. The internet is almost impossible to shut down. Maybe when the world is over. It’s like those peer-to-peer file sharing networks. The recording companies shut one down and a hundred new ones with millions of users will pop up. LOL!

In the unlikely event that the internet will shut down, we would do our best to reconnect or find other ways to reconnect with each other because we already did before it shut down. We know it is a wonderful thing and we wouldn’t have it any other way. It is in our nature to want to be connected.
