Hi Zoey,

I know a couple of these and can figure out the others.

I love 炒鱿鱼 which means to be fired/sacked from your job... literally it's "fried squid" !!

Also I like the 泡吧... I know the 泡 from 泡茶 right?

though we know the meaning of the words, we can't use the word the way we thought.
such as 大款,it is a derogatory term and is colloquial.

Hah, hah! Another interesting word is 泡汤 (pao tang). It means 'unsuccessful'. It's an informal expression.

大款is not a derogatory term, it is just collquial.

泡妞I think comes from Cantonese, or derived from 泡茶(make tea),when you make a pot of tea, you have to soak tea leaves into hot water, and wait patiently unti the good taste come out, and the particular character of tea leaves is that the second or third round of refill of hot water can make the tea taste best, which means you have to be patient, and carefully delt with it,just like you woo girls, right?
