Hello All,

My wife and I, U.S. citizens, are planning our first trip to China. Since our knowledge of the Chinese language is most minimal, we're looking for a "good" Chinese phrase book.

Would you recommend a specific phrase book?

Are you familiar with Survival Chinese by Boye De Mente?

I appreciate your feedback!

Thank you.

Zeph

Because Chinese is a tonal language, do not expect to be able to speak, you will point at the characters for the person to read.

You might consider buying a book of pictures to point at. I do not have one, but it sounds like a good idea.

Consider this one:

I have heard that it is good.

You might get a different answer from everyone, but I can recommend the book that I brought with me three years ago, and I still use it ocassionally now.
It was recommended to me before I left for China.

it's The Rough Guide Mandarin Chinese Dictionary Phrasebook.

ISBN: 1-85828-607-7

Obviously it's a few years old now so there mght be an updated version.

Have a great trip :)
