Recently, many parts in China have been hit by heavy snow. Those most affected areas are those southern provinces and cities, such as Guizhou, Anhui, Hunan, Henan, Hubei, Jiangxi and Guangdong Provinces. Due to the heavy snow, electricity supply has also been affected. On Jan 29, Guizhou provincial government announed to limit electricity supply in large areas because some major power plants have stopped working, lacking of coal. On the other hand, many people on their way back home have been trapped in the railway station, airports or buses on the highway. In Guangzhou Baiyun airport, there were about 14000 passengers trapped. About 60000 passengers were trapped in Guangzhou railway station because the trunk line between Beijing and Guangzhou were blocked by the heavy snow. The highway between Beijing and Zhuhai was also stopped to pass through. According to the news, 24 people were killed and 77.86 million people were affected by heavy snow in 14 provinces, including Anhui, Jiangxi, Hubei and Hunan.

To cope with the disaster, the central government has allocated 126 million yuan in aid to six provinces and an autonomous region hit hard by icy rain and heavy snow. Meanwhile, 158,000 PLA soldiers, 303,000 paramilitary member and 1 million police have been dispatched to the affected areas to fight against heavy snow.

Good news! The news said that the eight airports closed due to the bad weather have been reopened yesterday, included are Nanchang, Nanjing, Guiyang, Hefei, Zhangjiajie, Changde, Wuhan and Changsha. The highway between Beijing and Zhuhai is likely to open before 18 o’clock today. The trunk line between Beijing and Guangzhou is also to open today.
