![]() | A group of scientists at Newcastle University says that women don’t need men to have babies in 5 years. The scientists are planning an experiment on cultivating sperm in women’s body. The scientists plan to extract stem cells from women’s marrow, and then cultivate artificial sperm in women’s body. Therefore, women can breed without men in 5 years. But, women’s cells do not contain Y chromosome that is essential for giving birth to a male baby. So the babies bred by artificial sperm will be exclusively female. That would be a problem. Meanwhile, parthenogenesis will generate an ethical controversy. The experimenta process: l ![]() |

![]() | What's next? Eggs that will have little pieces of vegetables inside straight out of the chicken so we can make our favorite omelete without using a knife!?! Being a scientific by formation myself, I know that there is alway a value (as small it might seem to be) in any scientific research. That's how many discoveries and new ideas have been found. But that being said, this study looks to me like a stupid counter-nature/morality non-sense. Sorry to say that. But then again, who knows what they will discover from that and choose to work on next?... |

![]() | So, does that mean women do not need to get married any more? LOL! "But that being said, this study looks to me like a stupid counter-nature/morality non-sense. Sorry to say that. " It involves a controversial question between scientific study and morality which has been under argument for quite a while. The clone technology has posed a serious moral dilemma. Should the Clone techonogy be widely applied? If one day, you see a guy who looks exactly the same with you. How do you feel? It would be messed up. |

![]() | Leonardo, women do not need to be married in order to be pregnant. LOL! In fact, many women in other parts of the globe are opting not to get married or not to have children unless they really meet that good man they want. Many call this feminism or immorality (which is very subjective because what is immoral in one culture is not immoral in another), but it is just a personal choice which should be respected. Anyway, this 'project' has been going on for a few years. There are women who are married but couldn’t have children. At the same time, there are men with zero or low sperm count. I think this would benefit those couples who couldn’t have children. However, considering how many abandoned and unwanted children are out there, I would think adoption is a better option. Then again, it is a personal choice. Paul, maybe it is a good thing. Without a husband to run to for support, a woman will think twice before having children. Do you have the slightest idea how many women want to have children just because they are soooo cute! Argh! What kind of a reason is that?? What if the baby doesn’t turn out cute? Just abandon and throw it out? |

![]() | Shesgottobe, >>Considering how many abandoned and unwanted children are out there, I would think adoption is a better option. << I understand what you mean. In China, adoption is still not common. Chinese people highlight "blood tie". It is very important that the children have blood tie with the parents. Chinese people still cherish the belief " Blood is thicker than water." |

![]() | Yea, it really depends on the individual. Some other people believe that instead of adding to the world population head count, they might as well help the poor abandoned and unwanted children. I think it is a very unselfish act. Foster parents who treat their adopted children right are angels in disguise. ^_^ |

![]() | Yea, shegottobe, a lot foster parents treat their adopted children as kind as their biological children. They are indeed generous angels in disguise! LOL! |
