Xi'An to Lhasa
Feb 6, 2008 22:59
guestjmurry My family would like to take the train from Xi'An to Lhasa in late March. We consist of my wife, me, and two boys 10 and 12. Our plan is to take a daylight train in order to see the sights along the way. I don't know what class of travel we should book. The soft sleeper does not appear to have chairs, so we are leaning toward the soft seat. This also seems to be a better alternative for being experiencing the culture. I would appreciate the opinions of anybody familiar with the classes of train fair and any advice on how we should book the train. Thank you.

The soft sleeper does have fold-down seats in the aisle -- and you can sit on the lower bunks as well. Definitely soft sleeper instead of seats -- I don't think there's soft seat class for these trains, only hard seat.
Xi'an isn't a good place to get on the train as no trains originate here and they get a much smaller ticket allocation quota. You might want to consider starting from Lanzhou instead, or Xining, Beijing, Chengdu etc.
