Tour guide in China

I am from CT USA and I will go to Beijing in June for teacher training to teach Mandarin in the USA.
This is my first time to China. I would like to take this chance to see other cities around Beijing. Do you have any idea which I should do from scratch?

Suggest that you look at the various tour itineraries on the TravelChina Guide web site - they will give you an idea of the places you can visit. China is a large country and it will be a matter of how much time and funds you have available.
