![]() | I am travelling to China as a teacher in 2009. If anyone knows about churches (particularly English speaking) in China I would be very appreciative of some help. I will be staying in a large city but I don't know which one. I am looking for general advice rather than actuall addresses. I know there is an official government church but last time I was there my Mandarin couldn't keep up. Thanks heaps (please only reply if you have advice about finding a church I am hoping we are all mature enough not to make silly comments about religion) |

![]() | Wow, 2009 seems like such a long way off. That's really planning ahead. I can offer advice about Guangzhou, but I honestly don't know about the other major cities (though, clearly if you were going to live in Hong Kong I would recommend St John's). In Guangzhou the biggest and most popular church is on Yide Zhong Lu. It's a Catholic cathedral (the largest gothis cathedral in China), built by the French. Most of the services on a Sunday are in Chinese, but at least one (in the middle of the afternoon, I think) is in English. Shamian has two churches: another Catholic church (also built by the French) and an Anglican church (built by the British). I can report that the Anglican church conducts services almost exclusively in Chinese, although it also runs an English-language bible study group. I don't know about the Catholic church. There is a 'temporary' worship centre for foreigners in Tianhe. This conducts business in English but scarcely qualifies as a church. There are a few other places around the city, although I'm afraid I cannot confirm whether or not they have English-language services. |

GUEST91164 ![]() | Hi, if you are in Beijing and interested in a great fellowship, check out Beijing International Christian Fellowship. Their address is bicf.org Blessings |

![]() | And if you check the Beijing Fellowship site they will give you a link to other fellowships that are available of expats in other cities around China. There are many more that you think but it is best to wait until you know where you will be living and then you can make some more specific enquiries. Some groups don't advertise as there is no formal meeting places but it is not hard to meet others to fellowship with in the larger cities. |

![]() | You will find that most of the International fellowships are relatively non-denominational. although in cities like Shanghai there are several foreign fellowships which are more denominational This is a list of International fellowships around China where you can worship in English and you must be a Foreign National (foreign passport holder) to attend any services at these locations http://www.bicf.org/ |
