| No-one is going to tax you for bringing a laptop to China. Over the years I've brought several laptops into China without any problems. The tax issue rears its head when people go to Hong Kong and pick up a laptop tax-free. Coming back across the border, a returning shopper ought (properly) to go through the 'red' channel, declare his or her purchase and pay tax on it. This, of course, makes it pointless to go shopping for such things in Hong Kong, so no-one declares them. Naturally a savvy shopper will discard the cardboard box and styrofoam packaging, put the laptop in the laptop case that they successfully negotiated into their deal, and just stroll across the border as if they've owned the thing for years. Nothing cries out "tax me!" like a brand new, high-end computer, complete with accessories in shiny, shop-fresh boxes, spilling out of bulging computer centre carrier bags... The tax rules will not apply to you or your laptop. |

| No, you won't be paying taxes for that if you bring it. But, if you would have it shipped to you in China from another place, that will be costly. |
