![]() | Canadaguy, what do you think of Federer's recent performances? Since he was kicked out of Australian Open, he has lost many games. In Dubai Tennis Championships, he was eliminated by Murray. It seems that he is not in his condition this year. Right now, I doubt if he can tie Sampras' record this year. |

Right now, I doubt if he can tie Sampras' record this year. << Yes I am a little concerned about Roger's performances of late. But I have faith in his abilities. Even if he wins just one grand slam this year, he will almost certainly break Sampras' grand slam record in due course. Just before the tennis year started last year (2007) I predicted that if Roger wins three slams (total) in the next two years he would surely beat Sampras' slam record. Well it took him only one year to win those three slams! Amazing. So even if he has a bad year and doesn't win any slams this year, he will still beat Sampras' record in my opinion. Sampras himself had many 'dry spells' where he didn't win a slam for a year or more. As for Federer's 'poor' performance as of late (he didn't perform poorly at the Australian just at his last tournament). He states on his website that he visited his doctor recently and had some tests done. They found out that he had Mononucleosis (the Epstein-Barr Virus). So this would explain his recent lethargic performances. Until such time as someone comes onto the tennis scene with as much or greater talent than Roger, I think he can be assured of breaking Sampras' slam record. I have seen all of the current top tennis players play. None of them in my opinion has the talents that Roger possesses on the tennis court. |

![]() | I just heard that he suffered from diarrhea before attending Australian Open. Canadaguy, is Mononucleosis a kind of serious illness? Good luck to Roger! Hope he can recover very soon. We are here waiting for him to win more Grand Slams. |

Yes he had a minor illness that affected his play during the Australian. >>Canadaguy, is Mononucleosis a kind of serious illness? Good luck to Roger! Hope he can recover very soon. We are here waiting for him to win more Grand Slams. << Yes Mono is considered to be a serious type of illness. At times it can last for many months, depending on the individual and can be very debilitating. It can sap much of the energy from an individual so that they feel very weak and lethargic. I also hope Roger makes a full recovery and starts to win some slams again soon. The next Grand Slam will occur in May in France and then in June in England. It's very strange how the four slams are scheduled in a calendar year. There is a long wait between the U.S. Open and the Australian Open and similarly between the Australian Open and the French Open. But there is less than one month between the French Open and Wimbledon! |

![]() | Well, I think that these four grand slams should be rearranged. Then these tennis players have enough time to prepare for grand slams. |
