| Hi - my wife and I will be in Beijing at the end of March and plan on taking the night train out to Xi'an. We have some flexibility, so I'm wondering - is there a 'best day' to go there? Is there a day to avoid, such as weekends, etc.? By 'best' I mean least-crowded, both on the train and at such places as the Terracotta Army. Thanks! |

| I can't speak for the Terra Cotta area, but the city center ( Bell Tower ) of Xi'An is certainly busier on the weekend, Sunday in particular. So, that leaves any time during the week, which will be pretty much the same each day, crowd wise. Be sure to go to the Muslim quarter, and leave an afternoon open ( ie a few hours ) to rent a bike and cycle around the city wall. You can rent bikes from local hostels; try the one on West Street, just west of the Drum Tower by the Parkson shopping plaza. |
