Do you use your cellphone just for making calls and sending text messages or multimedia messages? If so, you are behind the times. What I mentioned above are the basic functions of a cellphone. At present, young guys play cool cellphones. They not only have attractive design but also have multi-functions. With this cellphone, you can access to internet, sending emails, listen to pop music, watch blockbusters, take photos or videos and equip some games to entertain yourselves. It sounds like a micro-computer. iPhone is the representative of these smart phones, which is very popular in the world. Except iPhone, Nokia N series, Sony Ericsson' W810i and K790 and Samsung's SGH-Z710 are also cool. Of course, some of them were produced several years ago. Did you remember Nokia N70? It was produced in 2005 but is still popular in China now. On the streets, you can see many Chinese have N70 in their hands.

However, some guys think that cellphone is cellphone and it is just used to make calls. Other functions are unnecessary. If you want to listen to music, just buy a iPod. If you want to take photos, just buy a digital camera.

What do you think? Do you wanna a simple phone or a cool phone?

I am a very basic cellphone user. I love music but I like them better on iPod and iTouch.

This is my cellphone, LG VX8600. It has the functions of music, video, photo and internet access but I rarely used them. I’ve had it for almost 2 years now. I don’t know if it is cool but many reviews call it sexy! (Just agree so nobody gets hurt!) ^_^”

SHESGOTTOBE, your cellphone looks cool. Is it LG's chocolate series? It sounds that your cellphone is durable cause you have used it for two years.

My first cellphone was NEC N100. Actually, I have used it for two years and four months. However, it didn't work two weeks ago so that I bought a new one. It is Nokia N70 that belongs to Nokia N series mentioned by Kevin. Here it is.

I don’t really know if it is part of any Chocolate series but it’s been compared to the slider Chocolate VX8500 so maybe it is the flip(clam shell) version of the Chocolate. I’ve never had any problems with it so I intend to use it until it falls apart. ^_^

Nokia was my very first cellphone. Nokia has always been very popular in Asia.

Oh, one question: Say both of you are in China and you call someone in their cellphone, does the other person also gets charged for it? I read somewhere that it works that way. Now, I am feeling guilty for calling my friend. :((

SHESGOTTOBE, both China Mobile and China Unicom adopt double-way charges. It means that both sides need to pay. Actually, many people strongly suggest that one-way charge should be put into use instead of double-way charges. However, the operators don't accept it because they want to earn more money. There are some packages offered by the operators. With applying to a certain package, you needn't pay when answering the calls. I don't know if your friend have this kind of package. If so, he/she needn't pay for it. I have applied this package so that I needn't pay anything for answering the calls. I assume that the prerequisite is that both of you should be in China. I don't know whether it is free to answer an international call with this package.

Thanks for the info, JimmyB. Ugh! I guess I can’t ask my friends what kind of package they have. It’s a dead giveaway that I am worrying about the charges. O_o Normally, I would just ask them if I have questions about anything Chinese or China, but I can’t if it would cause potential “face” issues for them.

You are welcome, SHESGOTTOBE. I guess that your friends won't tell you they pay for the international long distance calls because they won't make you feel conscience-stricken.

Isnt it sad how things nowadays have to be fashion accessories and 'cool'.
I work in photography and regularly get asked for pink cameras, must be the same for phone sellers.

If my camera was pink I would still get the same quality of photos and regardless of how many gadgets my phone has it is still at the end of the day exactly what it says on the box......mobile phone.

DAVEC, it is no surprise. Confronted with Samsung i7 and Canon Ixus 860is, which one will they prefer? Those who take cameras for fun will choose Samsung i7 because i7 is multi-functional, listening to mp3, watching movies or different maps of the countries. For me, I will choose Canon Ixus 860is. Why? I just want a digital camera to take photos not for fun.

There are choices because people have different preferences and different budgets.

I prefer a digital camera too, than using the cellphone camera because digital camera has higher pixel count and cellphone has very limited capacity. Cellphone camera is more like for emergencies.
