Have you encountered any akward quetions? How did you fend off these akward questions? For instance, if your kids asked you" mummy, where do I come from?" , what would be your answers? In China, some parents would answer: " my dear, it is not a proper question." How many of you answer the question like this one: "baby, you are found under gooseberry bushes."? Is this a popular answer to the question in the west? We don't answer that question in that way in China?

When I was a boy...the stork brought babies. :-)

The best answer probably depends on the age of the child asking.

Having a pregnant woman nearby is a great help if she is comfortable allowing a child to feel her baby moving. It explains everything without a explicit explanation.

When my little sister asked my mom this question, my mom told her that she was picked up near the railway. Then she cried loudly. My tried her best to comfort her and said:" My sweetheart, I am joking." However, she still didn't give her the correct answer.

Really an awkward question for shy parents! Why did you answer the question in this way: Babies were found under gooseberry bushes? Did it have some cultural backgrounds? Why don't give other answers? For example: babies are found under an apple tree or grapevine.

I was a bit of a brat as a child, so I remember one time asking about where I came from and my mother told me I was captured and brought home in a net, kicking and screaming! Of course she said that with humor and a smile.

When I asked my mom where I came from, she told me that I was picked up from the street. The first time I heard her words, I cried because I thought that I was abandoned. My mom comforted me and laughed loudly. She said she was joking. Later, I understood that she joked about me.

A child asked nonchalantly, “Mommy, where did I come from?” The mother, wanting to answer as honest as possible, answered, “From my tummy, honey.” It should have ended there. However, trouble came when the little child asked, “Ah… but… how did I get into your tummy?”

The mother, not wanting to answer the question said, “Go ask your daddy”.

Nyahahaha! Parents have a lot of explaining to do! ^.^

Or a child seeing a pregnant woman would ask, “Mommy, why does she have a big tummy?”

Oh, boy… ^_^”

For the record, I don’t remember if any one of us asked this question when we were kids.

A child asking that very question.

"Mummy where do babies come from?"
"Well daddies make a special liquid, and they put it inside mummies ... "
"Do mummies have to swallow it?"
"Only if they want new shoes."

Then what did you say to your kid? You know, I asked my mom this question when I was a kid. She just said "Ask your dad". Then I turned to my dad and he said the same thing "ask your mom". They didn't want to tell me.
