Do you know the differences between 属于and 属? Many foreigners can't distinguish 属 from 属于 so that they make many jokes. For example, someone say that 我是属于狗的. Really interesting! Here I will tell you the differences. 我是属鼠的. In English, it means that I was born in the year of Rat. 这件屋子是属于的. It means that this house belongs to me or I am the owner of the house. More clearly, 属于表示所有权，即某件东西是我的，而不是你的. "属于" means that something belongs to sb or sb owns sth, that is ownership. Some foreigners also don't know how to use 雌性 and 雄性, 男 and 女, and 公 and 母. Once a foreigner met her Chinese friend, she introduced her lovely doggy to her friend and said:" 这是我的女狗." Her friend laughed loudly. Usually, we use 雌性 and 雄性, and 公 and 母 to describe animals, not humans. To describe a human, you shoud use 男 and 女. For example, 他是男的 (He is male or he is a man). If you want to describe a dog, you should say 这是只母狗 or 这只狗是雌的 (This is a female dog)。 Do you understand? Next time when somebody asks you: "你属什么的?" Tell him/her, 我属牛的，而不是“我属于牛”。 Wen introducing your lovely female dog to your friend, tell him 这是只母狗, not 这是我的女狗.
