![]() | "Hey you! Dozing at your desk! Wake up, go home and get more sleep!" This is the message of a survey released Monday by the US National Sleep Foundation. 1,000 people participated in the survey. The survey shows that the majorty of Americans average six hours and 40 minutes of sleep a night on weeknights, even though they estimated they'd need roughly another 40 minutes of sleep to be at their best. Roughly one-third of those surveyed said they had fallen asleep or become very sleepy at work in the past month. "It seems people are also trying to squeeze in more time for themselves and their families, even if it means less sleep. The average wake up is at 5:35 a.m. and it's followed by about two hours and 15 minutes at home before heading out to work, according to the survey. Average bedtime is 10:53." How many hours do you usually sleep in workweeks? Are you sleepy at work? If so, you'd better make up your sleep. |

![]() | I get about 5 hours which is not enough for my liking as I always feel tired, which is not ideal, in my job I have to be alert at all times. Normally I will try and make up for it over the week end but as I'm working this week end I will have to manage. Alan |

![]() | Sleep is very important to me. I can get by with 6 hours on work weeks but not for long. I have noticed that I am at my best when I can get to bed by 8 or 9 in the evening and wake up at 5 in the morning. |

![]() | Alan, you only sleep for five hours? That is inadequate. Do you have some troubles in falling alseep? Sometimes, I suffer from insomnia. Without adequate sleep, you will feel exhausted during workweeks. |

![]() | Hi Leo I'm a light sleeper so any noise tends to wake me up, very rarely do I manage to go into deep sleep, I get so tired I even doze off on the bus going to work which is not good as it's only 20 minutes away and I often feel worse for it. Blimey, I'm yawning now, he he Alan |

![]() | Leopold, 5 hours is 'not inadequate'. It is not that simple. I would consider that luxury, a bit like having a banquet for every meal. I rarely sleep that long. Even if I get the four hours a night that I like to have it will be broken up with many wakings. I just cannot understand how people can sleep so long! In China people on a 24 hour train journey seem to sleep for 20 hours, amazing! I would also guess that just as many people who have had the recommended amount of sleep, doze off at work, as those who sleep less. Come on, just how much fun is it staring at a pc screen all day (unless it is TCG or course). |

![]() | Eight hours would be a luxury for most working people. The fast-paced life makes you pushed. Not only adults but kids are currently having less sleeping hours, they have to stay up to do their homework. |
