Its holiday time and time to search for a new place to visit. Planning Hainan this time during the chinese new year holidays. Having heard a lot abt this place.. cant resist the temptation to visit Hainan. The Travel agents charge a bomb for a tour there and esp more when its a foreigner. Need some info from people who have been there before.

Whats the cheapest way to get to Hainan/Sanya and Any suggestions for an economical stay in Sanya. Also let me know a few simple and comfy hotels too.

Thanks folks.

I've never been to Hainan, though longing for a long time ^_^
While I read many travel reviews by Chinese natives who have visited there, everyone says not to book a tour or hire a guide there. You'll be heavily over-charged by them.

In fact, Hainan is a place no much historical sites, people go there only to enjoy the beaches and sunshine, so no need for a guide to accompany you.

So only pre-book your hotels as well as the air tickets, for the pick-up from airport, your hotel can usually offer such services.

i usually travel from guangzhou to hainan, the cheapest way is to travel by road to haian pier, I take the 9pm overnight long distance bus which will take you right to the pier arriving around 6am. the ferry leave at 6.45am to haikou. on the way you will see the spectacular sunrise. you should arrive around 8am. there are direct bus from the pier to sanya. there are a lot of hotels near the bus station, at the beach etc.During the cny season, the room rates will be super high. if you stay in town, their are regular bus that take you to all the beaches.

Do u guys suggest going to Hainan during the chinese new year without any prior hotel booking. Is it easy to find not so expensive hotels to stay by just leaving for Sanya.. just like that
