Hi,

My great grandfather was a missionary in Xiamen from 188 to 1913. His wife died there during that time, so I was planning to travel to Xiamen to try and find her grave and also where he lived. Can someone point me in the right direction?

Udor,
Welcome to China,
You should first find out which group/organisation your grandparents came to China with. You might also contact them for any information about the location of the offices and other buildings that were built by them. Xiamen was you probably know was called Amoy in those days so a search using this name and the dates may give you something useful too.

Gulang Yu, which is a small island in Xiamen harbour (2mins by ferry) was the location of the foreign settlement and many churches are still located there.

There is a small museum on the island but I don't know if it has any records that would be useful for you either.

Good luck. If you have any other questions, contact my MSG. I have friends in Xiamen who may be able to help if you get nowhere with your won search.

Here is probably the best contact for you to follow up first. The guy who host this site has lived in Xiamen many years and may well be able to help you.
