Father son team are traveling to China for the first time to attend the Canton Fair in April 2008. During our visit, we will also be traveling to different cities in China to visit Textile factories. We would appreciate suggestions for the following:

1. Should we travel within China by air or by train, and which option is more economical?
2. Is traveling by train safe?
3. Since both of us do not speak Chinese, is it necessary to travel with a business interpreter?
4. Should buy tickets in advance from USA to visit the different cities or should we wait to buy them when we arrive in China?
5. Most Guangzhou hotels are booked, and those available are asking double or triple the price. Is this because of Canton Fair? Any suggestions on how to find nice hotels at an economical rate for the Canton Fair?

Hi Yousuf,
Answer your questions below:
1. Train is usually safe and economical, but if too far, you have to take plane, and sometimes you have to go by bus or taxi.
2. It would make your trip much easier if you have a good interpreter with you, it can save you a lot of time and moeny also.
3.Tickets are easy to get, so no need to buy in advance.
4. Hotels are short of supply during the Canton fair, the prices usually is double or triple, and it needs to be booked in advance, and pay deposit too, if not, they will not keep the rooms for you.
If any more question, please contact me via email: hotmail.com|caijun_Bill.
Wish you enjoy a great trip in China.

1) Train is obviously more economical, but slower.
2) Yes.
3) No. You're not babies; you're not the first, last or only people coming to China who don't understand the language. You don't need interpreters just to travel around. However business interpreters will be useful if you need to conduct business discussions.
5) Yes. Best solution for you would be to adjust your mindset and upgrade your concept of "economical".

On your last post Elysee: there are three types of people in the world, those who can count and those who can't! (a joke)

Concerning travelling: I think there are 2 types of people in the world !
a) Those who are able to read a guide book
b) Those who are not able to read, but have to use traveler forums
