guest95102	I am thinking about moving to china as my girlfriend is working there for the next year or so, in shanghai. Preferably I would like to find a job before I go, which I am finding hard to do outisde of english teacher (side issure: you know any good recruitment firms, perhaps specialising in technology sector?). Anyway, If I can't find a job before I go what are my options for getting a longer term visa (not just the usual tourist / L visa). Any help, greatly appreciated

If you have a good academic and working back ground,you can get invitation from here but better you come here on L visa and change it to z visa.Tell your girlfriend to send resume for you in different sites,likely you will get a job and after getting job you can easily change your visa.Send me your resume,am free these days with our expectation salary and work field,i will try to help you ,and after company agrees you can come here and start your work and change your visa.if you are from europe or america ,i do not think you will get any problems here even though olympic is approaching.No need to worry about visa,better worry about your job and your placement as changing from L to Z visa is easy for white folks.

"L to Z visa is easy for white folks" - what Nathon forgot to mention is the cost! He should have said "it is easy for rich folks" (which many Chinese perceive as white folks!). You would be better to get a double entry L visa (each stay valid for 90 days - available only from your resident country's Chinese visa office), and then see how things go when you get to SH. Unless you need a Z visa, it will be easier (and cheaper) to get a 6 month F visa once your L's have expired. This will give you a total of about 12 months for a fraction of the price of a Z visa.
