Cost of silk

guest06430 I will be travelling to china in May and am looking to pick up some silk for a friend back in the states. She wants anywhere from 2-20 yards of a darker red color. How much is it per yard or meter? And is it better to buy in Suzhou or Shanghai as I will be visiting both? Thanks for the help!

The cost of silks vary on the quality and the width.

For a sheer silk with a soft drape I usually pay about Y70 $US10 per meter but you can pay a lot more. Either Shanghai or Suzhou would be OK

Shanghai's Nanjing Lu has lots or very large fabric store where you will at least get a better choice.

Perhaps someone can give you some ideas for Suzhou. I only ever saw dress shops which usually make but don't sell fabric and generally do not have the meterage on hand that you may want.

GUEST06430 Ok, Thanks Jabarootoo. Is there some type of silk called guiptine or something similiar to that where there are little knots left in the silk?
