A new trend among China’s college campus: female students are no longer concerntrating on their studies in their academic years. Neither they are busy in hunting jobs. A popular belief among the girls is that marrying a good (rich) husband is better than hunting for a good job. Their parents think so.

A survey conducted among the colleges and universities in Guangzhou Tianhe area indicates that 30% girls identify with the thought that finding a good job is not as good as marrying a good (weathy) husband.

A girl surnamed Dai was calm when her classmates were worrying about the job opportunites. She said: “ it doesn’t matter if I can’t find an ideal job right now, at worst, I will go back to my hometown to find a good husband” . Her parents have arranged a date for her. They wait her to go back to Jiangsu province to date the man. Her parents have set the standards for the future son-in-law:
No.1 he must have an apartment and a car.
No. 2 He is not the only child of his family
No.3 It will be better if his parents have passed away, or his parents must have pension so that they won’t burden their son.

Dai thinks it is reasonable after hearing her parent’s analysis, while some of her classmates shrugs.
Does it mean “ a good husband= an apparment+ a car+no parents”?
Facing the shrinking job market, is it a good way to lessen female grads’ job employment pressure?

The western term often applied to such women is "gold digger" ... marrying a man for his riches. In a society based on practicality, like China, the harsh connotation of "gold digger" might not be fair.

Oh, genius, someone worked out another formula:" a good husband= an apparment+ a car+no parents". Can anyone work out " a good fiancee" formula? She is really a practical girl.

Whatever race or nationality, each individual should be free to set his/her own standards in choosing a mate. It is a dream and everyone should be free to pursue their dream. Wanting a beautiful girl is not different/better/worse as wanting a rich man.

It would be interesting to know what Dai would have to say if her parents found her a man who had an appartment, a car, and no parents but who was shorter than her and 难看。

She will find another one. China's market situation is: there is about 30,000,000 male surplus. According to market economy, the supply of women exceeds the demand.( LOL!)
