chongqing to yichang along the Yangtze
Mar 25, 2008 09:56
guestBeth hi, Me andmy friend are travelling aroundchina in July, and are looking totravel from Chongqing to Yichang along the Yangtze river. the onlything we can find on the internet are 5* expensive cruises, and that is not really what we are looking for!
does anyone know what the more basic options are for travelling this route by boat, and whether or not it is necessary to prebook such trips (or couldwe just turn up at Chongqing and hop on a boat whenever we wanted?)

any help would be very much appreciated!

There are those Chinese ferries. Any backpacker guidebook eg Lonely Planet will be able to give you the right information.

Search this site both forum threads and reviews about Chongqing and the Yangtze and you'll find plenty of details about cruising the river and taking the Hydrofoil.

Yes it is possible to arrive in CQ and get on a boat after a day or so. Just go down to Chao tian men and you will get touted the minute you show up. You should be able to get a four berth cabin for around Y500 Just be sure you understand what is included for that price and take food with you for the duration.
