Do you have the habit of writting diaries or journals? I had the habit when I was at Primary school. Actually, it was an assignment by our Chinese teachers. In the past, we wrote journals in a small paper notebook. As the advancement of Internet, various weblogs and spaces are provided by webmasters for users to record their personal experience and anecdotes. Facebook, Windowspace, QQ space (popular in China) provide such kinds of service. Opening a blog became a trend in China. Various people, ranging from celebs to grass-roots, open their blogs at various websites. Some of them made the name through publishing articles in their blogs. Actually, it is positive to see that blog perform as a platform for people (either strangers or acquaintainces) to exchange ideas and values as well as sharing your personal anectdotes with others. To some extent, blog has functioned as a bridge for people to interact in the fast changing and fast-paced society. In the daytime, you may be engrossed in making money and working for your bosses. When night falls, isn’t it a good idea for you to enjoy the tranquility and read through your counterparts’ thought? A common scene is as follow, when you commuted from your home to workplaces, almost all the people kept phlegmatic on public transportation. The worst scenario is that you have a private car, driving to the workplace alone, and then driving to your nest alone. IMHO, we might disguise ourselves too much in the real world so that we need a virtual space to display the true self and the real individuality, and meanwhile, blog caters to such needs. That is why blog becomes popular. Am I right? Well, on the other hand, writing your stories at blog, you risk your privacy being exposed. Usually, we are inclined to reveal some personal information about ourselves such as cell phone number, email address, etc, which probably incurred troubles for us. So be careful! For the celebs, it should be a big taboo. For those who are conservative and quite inner-going, you should take more precaution. Blog will be more likely to betray you. Perhaps, your initial motive is to lend the wings to imagination in a relatively private and small space. The result may be against your will. Even worse, it is a traitor who sold your privacy. Do you have a blog? Do you contribute your writings regularly at your blog? What do you think of the function of blog? Blog, display individuality or reveal your privacy?

I used to update a blog back in my high school days into my junior year at college. It was in a way fun yet I never fully revealed my personal life into a public journal like that because I felt that it was too public because sites like Xanga, LJ or Myspace was a way to keep up with friends from High School and to say whats up to somebody who you never got to know but wanted to. But it just got weird when random people in urban suburbia would ask you if things between you and your cousin have stopped hating on each other or whether your silverado's got the 12" lift job yet. I believe nobody really reveals everything into a public blog, I know I always kept a personal blog that has everything in it from my day because I like to flip back a year earlier to the same exact date and see what was going on on this certain bad day I was having to see what my thoughts were. And so I found it pointless to keep updating a public journal that had holes in it and not too long, many of my friends followed. Thats my take on it.

My thought on this topic is different from Destruckdoz. I registered a blog account at sina.com when I was a sophomore and updated it regularly. I made lots of friends there. I shared my experiences with them. When I was blue, I spoke it out there, they all came to comfort me by their sincere words. At the same time, when I felt excited, I shared my joy with them. Everytime when I travelled interesting places, I posted nice pics there. It was of great fun to interact with both friends and acquaintaince at a blog.

No blog. No diary. No xanga account. No myspace account. No facebook account. No friendster account. No yahoo 360 account. Yup. That’s me. But the truth is I wanted to. I would be unstoppable if only I could get started! LOL!

I update my blog regularly. I can't foresee any privacy infringement at a weblog. It is you that decide what you want to share with your friends. You are aware of which secrets are not appropriate to expose. I have never displayed confidential infos to others.
