SOMMER Points: Join Date: May 23, 2005 Status: offline	next school holiday is from April 24 - May 11; where to go for some fresh air for about a week? No air travel for such a short trip; overnight train is fine or 6 hours or less during the day. Road travel is no fun as my daughter gets car sick after just an hour. Anywhere to recommend? I don't need a spa or resort and can get by on my lousy Chinese. Just looking to get out of Beijing and breathe. thanks in advance!

JABAROOTOO Points: Join Date: Jul 4, 2005 Status: Offline	Go down to the the coast at QinHuangdao, Beidaihe, and Shanhaiguan_all close together. Take the train 5 hours to Qinghuangdoa Or the bus between 3 and 4 depending on where you choose to arrive. Google online for more information. The Great Wall ends here _Laolong tou and is worth the visit and the sea air will be a little fresher Read review here and see some photos

JABAROOTOO Points: Join Date: Jul 4, 2005 Status: Offline	Actually you can take the train to Shanhaiguan 5 hours. we stayed here inside the old city wall and fort area. Buses leave from Qinhuangdao 30 mins away and take three hours to Beijing Take local buses for a day trip to Beidaihe and surroundings It's pretty easy to get around and there's enough to see and do without going to far or you can simply enjoy the seaside

GUESTSOMMER	I just assumed that popular resorts like Dalian and Qingdao would be very busy. Never been to any of China's beaches... nice? Old city wall and fort area sound interesting; I will do a search today. Any accommodation to recommend? I need a better map as well. Off to the bookstore. cheers!

SOMMER Points: Join Date: May 23, 2005 Status: Offline	picked up the Beijing Excursion Guide and Shanhaiguan looks cozy. Also the travel times are easy: T11/T14 13:20 -16:26 0d03h06m So seaside it is! Maybe on the way back a detour through the mountains.... cheers!
