| Dear Sir, Madam, My Grand Pa left a small town of Wen Chang, Hainan for Thailand at least 80 years ago with his younger brother. He then set up his own business, married to my Thai Grand Ma, have kids and stay there for good. When he died we buried him well and pay him a proper respect every year. We learned afterwards that my brother had secretly kept one of his tooth bone for personal memory. By that time we didn’t know why my brother did that. It must have been a big violation to cultural or traditional rule some how. Last year I had job opportunity to work in Shanghai for two years. I then asked my brother to give me Grand Pa’s bone expecting that I should have at least bring his bone to his mother land, and if possible, should bury his bone in his home town. ……That might be the reason why my brother kept Grand Pa’s bone. I am now settle down in Shanghai and ready to bring him home. I think this incoming Chinese new year would be the perfect time for him to be returned to his mother land. So far I had got a little information about where about my Grand Pa’s home town should be. And worst of all, the way my half Thai and half Hinannian uncles told me sound like these (should be pronounced in English way not Chinese PinYin way though) : “Hai Lum” Provice … this is for sure Hainan Island “Boon Chiang” District … the closest expectation for me now is Wen Chang District “Gang Tou” Village … I have no idea (only Mandarin is too difficult for me now) Grand Pa’s family houses should be close to a market called (sounded like) “Toe Won” My Great Grand Pa’s name is “Hwon Xiang Beng” My Grand Pa’s name is “Hwon Dai Kon” My Grand Pa’s Brother is “Hwon Dai Jek” Two of my uncles who live in Thailand and gave me the above info are “Hwon Hui Yian” and “Hwon Hui Suan” My Grand Pa’s family houses consist of 6 connected town houses in a middle and longest row of three town house rows. That’s all I know now. Please be inform that any information you sir, madam, could give me either a very little one in your opinion “can” and “will” help me a lot because right now I don’t have a clue even “How to travel from Hai Kou Airport to Wen Ching and back? Where is the closest hotel that I could stay around the area? and How much would it cost per night since I am not that rich?”, for example. My best regards Christ |

| Hi, Christ: I really want to do some help for you, but i've never heard about the place before you refered to. After searching on the internet, i learned that there is a city called Wen Chang in Hainan Island, and the city is located in the southeast of Haikou, the capital of Hainan. Not far away from Haikou, it will take you one hour to get there by bus. You may arrange your accommodation at Haikou and take a bus trip to Wenchang. |
