![]() | Hong Kong airport -- Nanning: http://ctsbus.hkcts.com/ Sorry, it looks like you won't be in time to catch that. It departs from Hong Kong airport at 1900 and you only arrive at 2045. Hong Kong downtown -- Nanning: http://ctsbus.hkcts.com/ Looks like it's better to stay a night in Hong Kong downtown then catch this bus the next night. |

![]() | If you are in a hurry, you could go to Shenzhen the next morning (or the first night as accom is cheaper there) and look for a bus there. Buses are not always easy to locate! There is a bus station (coach station if you are British) immediately you cross the border. Look to your right across the square. Ask there, but quite possibly the buses for Nanning go from another place. It's never simple! You can also cross the border and go to the railway station (train station if u r US) and might be able to get a train. The problems are: they often sell out days before; if you don't specify, they assume a 'hard' (but it's not hard, seat) so if they say 'Mayo' they are not asking what salad dressing you want, but 'none available', so then you have to ask for a soft or hard sleeper, or a soft seat.....one of which is probably what you wAnted anyway! You will need these phrases in Chinese to stand any chance...so ask someone to write them down for you....BUT best not in HK as they use old written Ch :( BUT it is very easy to get a fast bullet train to Guangzhou, to quite late at night. Then you can start the game again :) Travelling in China can be complex, but it's all part of the experience..... if you have time. So when you get to Nanning, start planningthe return trip, and buy train tickets asap, or determine which bus station the buses go from (in Nanning they are well spread out). No-one knows at one bus station what buses are available at the others. Oh, while in nanning, do visit Yangmei. leave early for a day trip, or stay overnight in simple accom. The bus (distinctly local, not tourist, goes from a SMALL bus station just west of the main railway station.... walk west and it is down a street on the left (do not believe the sign that busess also go to Datian Waterfall). Of course it is simpler if you can become fluent in Mandarin or Cantonese before you get here, but I KNOW how hard that is, so instead I hope these comments make it a shade easier (???!!!??@@@!!??). If all else fails the following phrase is useful 'yi pin bingde pijiu' (or just go to the bloody fridge and get the cold beers out for yourself !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
