A pro would have had safety gear.

...and I'd bet the angle and view from the dangerous outcropping is no better than the ledge he returned to.

Perhaps it's just a photographic gimmick. He could have been dropped onto the rock by helicopter to set up the shoot. He could make a few dummy jumps and the the rest of the sequence looks like a really dangerous.

You can do wonders with photography these days
