Detroit-The United Auto Workers union presented a broad contract proposal to American Axle & Manufacturing Holdings Inc. Wednesday that counters the company’s demands to cut employees’ combined wages and benefits by more than half. It’s said that U$ 73.48 all in hourly labor cost is not competitive with rivals and many of which cut costs through bankruptcy. American Axle wants to get its labor costs, including health care and retirement, down to U$20 to U$30 an hour. Chrysler workers followed the suite.

No matter how the strike goes, management would rather announce bankruptcy then giving up the idea of labors cuts. It’s a cruel fact that 1st world job market is shrinking and outsourcing its mfg and other much valued added tech. industry to India and China. And it’s creating lots of social problem like middle class living standard is declining, skilled workers with FI visa grab jobs from US citizens, which has been a hot debate in CNN. How do you think about it. What is the fundamental impact to US society if outsourcing is going on and on ?

Well , here we go again. The excuse is that other corporations have already outsourced jobs or using imported labor, so therefore this company must do the same in order to be competitive. A chain reaction deal, and they (corps) are loving every minute of it. Bankruptcy is always used as a threat or an easy way out.
Everyone here might as well migrate overseas and get it over with. A lot of the U.S. infrastructure has already been sold to overseas investors ( some known to the general public and some not) to satisfy debt (?) or take advantage of the $ devaluation.
If our people think the housing bubble was a "biggie" just wait until the mass population wakes up to whats going on. The main problem is that "it is not a problem with a person unless they are directly affected".
Higher oil(fuel) and food costs should be a "wake up" call for those whose heads are" buried in the sand"
I will give CNN credit for trying to keep the public informed of our economic situation and understand they are sideways with China on Tibet issue.
