Guilin-Longsheng-Fenghuang-Chengdu

We are travelling to China in July/August. Part of our trip is Guilin to Longsheng (bus). We then want to go to Fenghuang. What is the best way to travel? Should we take the bus to Sanjian, then the train to Huaihua, and then another bus? Or does the train stop at Fenghuang?

No, Fenghuang doesn't have a train station. The nearest ones would be Jishou, and then Huaihua.
For long-distance travel, I would always prefer the train if there's one. In this case you do, train K651/K654 (1349--0009) taking 10h20min.

From Jishou, you take a bus to Fenghuang, journey time is around 1.5 hours.

I will be doing the exact same route next week.

From Guilin I take bus to Longsheng, after that its easier to get bus across to Sanjian and catch the train. The train gets to Huaihua just after midnight which is not ideal. I will stay overnight and get bus next day to Fenghuang.
