Ellyse

Correct, the wushu coach was from Shijiazhuang.

Plan was for him to step into the Shaolin temple and to see where the monks do their daily training.

Keen on spending the rest of the time in Jiuzhaigou and staying inside the park.

From my search on the net, 3 days are sufficient.

Just wondering whether it will be worth the while to take in Huanshang as well.
Can stretch our stay to 8 or even 9 days.

Another alternative was Tai Shan.
Been there on my own last year also in July but it rained.
So could not see the sun rise.
Besides, only reach Tai'an after the cable car had stopped.
Had to stay in Tai'an overnight and next day at 1am took the bus and walked all the way up.
My son wants that challenge as well.

Then, you did advise me on the hotel to stay at the summit as you had just been there.
Again thanks.

I would say 2 days are sufficient for Jiuzhaigou, but you'll need more days to account for travel time.
If you only visit Shaolin Temple as a tourist, you won't really see monks doing their daily training. It's already too touristy. I went to Wudangshan for the May holidays recently and I think it might've been more possible there.
Both Huangshan and Taishan are worth visiting IMHO.

Ellyse,

Thanks for your advise regarding Wudangshan.
In fact, my son also mentioned that if time permit, he wants to visit Wudangshan.

Think we will finalize the trip to Jiuzhaigou and Shaolin Temple and Wudangshan.

If you need to be in and out by 8-9 days you'll need to plan your trip carefully as Jiuzhaigou and Wudangshan aren't that well-connected transport-wise.
You mentioned you're flying in and also out of Shenzhen/Hong Kong, is that right?
If you need help organising the itinerary or whatever, email me at yahoo.com|ellyse99 -- please put "TravelChinaGuide" and your own username (eg Jat27) in the subject line, thanks.

Ellyse,

Thanks for the offer and will take it up.

Yes, we will be flying into Hong Kong.
Using Shenzhen as I think there will be more flight connections for domestic flight.
Whereas Hong Kong only flies to major cities inside China.

Intention is to have a return Hong Kong air ticket.
Then Shenzhen to either Jiuzhaigou or Luoyang connecting flight.

Thereafter, it will be free and easy.
Only booking the flight when required.
Don't mind paying extra as then we will not be tie down to an fixed itinerary.

Flights aren't daily and you're not going to popular destinations so the connections are somewhat limited. I don't think Jiuzhaigou has any direct flight connections to Luoyang, Shenzhen or Wudangshan! I only know of flights to Xi'an, Chongqing and Chengdu. I think you might've underestimated the ease of travelling around on your limited timeframe and limited flight schedules.

Oh, more net search.

Thought that China and the tourist destination places are all connected.

In that case, might have to consider train or express coach.

As Ellyse says destinations of flights in and out of Ziuzhaigou are pretty limited with the exception of loads to and from Chengdu, a few to Chongqing and two to and from Xian which is the closest airport to Luoyang

Once you've visited the National Park I 'm sure you could enjoy trekking around in the same vicinity. I have know idea how easy or difficult it would be but I'm sure that you can find places that are just as beautiful and of course far less crowded to do day trips from a hotel near the park. Just need to find someone to assist you with transport and possible a local guide.

Just a thought but may be too much trouble for the time you have available.

Look like I have to see my travel agent over the flight details.

If needs be, we can extend the trip from 7 days to 10 days.

Still trying to take in Jiuzhaigou and another place with mountains.
My son in favor of Wudangshan.
