Since it it obvious that visa requirements are getting strict in the lead up to the Games, here is a tip that may help some of you.

Many online booking agencies take 10% of your room rate on credit card.

There are many cheap hostels and hotels in China these days that can be booked online for this small deposit.

It is only a small amount to forfeit if in fact you do not end up staying for the duration but it will furnish you with the required proof of reservations.

I share this because my sister got a visa for June no questions asked but our friend, a single male who she will be travelling with has been asked to supply proof of hotel reservations. No logic to this at all.

We have booked a hotel which we intend to stay at but for some of you with more flexible itineraries, this may be your only option.

Good luck
