![]() | If you want to go to Sapa first, it would make more sense to cross at the Hekou/Lao Cai border instead of the Nanning/Lang Son border. Ie exit China through Yunnan province. Xi'an -- Kunming train: K165 (2218--1020) 36h02min Xi'an -- Nanning train: K318/K315 (1938--0502) 33h24min Also, if you're planning to go to Hanoi from Nanning, taking the bus would be more convenient than the train. Bus departs daily while the train is only twice a week. However the bus only departs from Nanning in the morning. If you're crossing from Nanning and don't want to, or can't make it in time for the direct bus to Hanoi, you could also take a train to Pingxiang then taxi to the Friendship Pass border, another taxi to Lang Son long-distance bus station (on the Vietnamese side) then a bus to Hanoi. "Expensive" is a relative concept... flying is definitely more expensive than train but if you can afford it then it might be good to fly in order to save time. |

![]() | What is the situation where??? The photo that I took of the schedule in Kunming Nanyao long-distance bus station (one of the main ones in Kunming, opposite the train station) shows departures at 0940 and 1240, journey time 10 hours, fare 124 RMB. Otherwise, the URLs listed below have more on-the-spot information about this route. http://www.lonelyplanet.com/ http://www.lonelyplanet.com/ http://www.lonelyplanet.com/ |
