Four days latter, the French Open will be held in Roland Garros. Before French Open, some top tennis players have announced that they won't join this event due to their injuries. Roddick is one of them. However, it seems that the competition will still be fierce without him. Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic and Nikolay Davydenko and other players will fight for the title.

Who will be the King? Rafael Nadal, "king of the clay", must be the hottest candidate. Please don't forget the other three players. Roger has got 12 Grand Slams and French Open has been his regret for a long time. This time, he is longing for winning the title of French title. Djokovic, the champion of Australian Open, shouldn't be ignored too. In Rome, he jus played three games to win the title. Last year, Davydenko was knocked out during the semi-finals. He is also possible to create miracle.

In Women's Singles, Henin, World No.1 has retired before this French Open. Now it is a good chance for other top female players to show their talents and claim the title. An expected competition will be given by Maria Sharapova, Serena Williams, A Ivanovic and Jelena Jankovic. Those so called experts think that Jankovic is possible to win the title. What do you think? Who will be the new queen?

I would very much like to see Federer win the French.
On the women's side, I'd like to see Sharapova win. For each, it would mean a career grand slam.

If Sharapova can't win, I'd be happy to see either Ivanovic or Jankovic win.

It should be a very interesting next couple of weeks in Paris.

Canadaguy, I knew that you would say that you hope Federer and Sharapova could win the title because they are your favourites. Why did you skip Serena? She is the one who once won the French title and still fights on the tennis court this time (Henin just retired). Is it because she is not as beautiful as Sharapova and those two Serbian girls? Just kidding!

For me, I would see Federer and Ivanovic win (Ivanovic is prettier than Sharapova, isn't she?). However, I am worried about Federer. He hasn't played very well this year, just winning two titles. What's more, playing on the red clay is not what he is good at. Nadal is the king of the clay.

For the Men's Singles, I guess that Nadal will win. He is really good at playing on the clay. On the other hand, he has done a good job in recent games. As Kevin said, Federer hasn't played very well this year and he is not good at playing on the clay ground. If he can win, it will be a miracle.

For women, I would like to see Ana Ivanovic win because she is the most beautiful of the four girls :-) Don't hit me! However, she needs to play harder and harder since the rest three are strong rivals.

I skipped Serena, not because she doesn't have the talent to win, but because of her attitude. She is a conceited and bitter person. She puts down other people and cares very little for their feelings or opinions.

When she loses a match after being beaten soundly by her opponent, during an interview, she will never give credit to her opponent's play. She will make all kinds of excuses as to why she lost the match, instead of just simply saying her opponent played better than her, period.

>>(Ivanovic is prettier than Sharapova, isn't she?).

Not in my eyes. I find Sharapova to be more attractive overall. Her build and her face.

Actually he has won just one title this year. Please read my response to Jimmy about him not being good on clay.

Jimmy I must disagree with you strongly here.

Federer has actually not been playing that badly this year. It's true he hasn't won as many titles as he normally does, but he has reached many finals and semi-finals. That is not playing badly!

To say he is "not good at playing on the clay ground" is simply not true.
If Nadal wasn't around, Federer would already have at least a couple of French Open titles.

He is very good on clay! As a matter of fact, apart from Nadal, can you name me one player who is better than Federer on the surface?
That is why he has made it to the finals the past few years.

To the contrary, it would be far from "a miracle" if he were to win the French this year.

Jimmy I should add one more thing. If Federer didn't have mental/concentration problems during his last match against Nadal on clay, he would have won it. Federer was up 5-1 in the 1st set and then lost 6 games in a row. He was also up in the second set and lost that one too.

So, Federer does have the game to beat Nadal. He needs to get his mind in order now.

Canadaguy, I never knew that Serena was that kind of person. Now I think that I should re-think about her.

">>(Ivanovic is prettier than Sharapova, isn't she?).

Well, we have different taste toward beauty. Sharapova plays tennis better since she has won more titles than Ivanovic and she is more powerful on tennis court. But I still think that she is more like a man on the court, screaming loudly and playing hard. (Don't beat me). However, Ivanovic is more womanly.

Canadaguy, perhaps, we have expected too much for Federer. Since he has won 12 Grand Slams, we all hope that he couls win more this year to break the record made by Sampras. However, he has just won one so far this year. This made us a little disappointed.

"To say he is "not good at playing on the clay ground" is simply not true.

Well, he does play better than Sampras in French Open. Sampras's best record is that he entered the semi-finals. Federer entered the final in 2006 and finally won the second place. Unluckily, with Nadal's existence, Federer still hasn't got one title of French.

"He is very good on clay! As a matter of fact, apart from Nadal, can you name me one player who is better than Federer on the surface? That is why he has made it to the finals the past few years."

Gustavo Kuerten was the former "king of the clay". He has won three titles of French Open (1997, 2000 and 2001). Unluckily, he was eliminated at the first round this time. But it is hard to find another except Nadal in current time.

Gustavo Kuerten

Yes that is true. When someone wins so many slams in such a short period of time we begin to expect too much of them. But his play compared to the average player on tour is still phenomenal.
He still has a few more years to try to break Sampras' record of 14 slams.
And let's not forget Sampras' 'dry years' just before her retired and his winning another slam in his 30's.

Yes, Kuerten was another great on the clay surface, that's for sure.
It's funny, you were mentioning Sharapova and her grunting noises on court.
I watched an old match of Kuerten playing Federer on YouTube a few days ago and I couldn't believe my ears.
Kuerten was grunting so loudly all the time, it was quite annoying!
