| Source: FT and Xinhuanet. Yesterday, the government said that it had mobilised some state-owned companies to make 1 million prefabricated houses for the people in the quake-hit areas in three months. At the moment, the government faces a huge task to provide food and houses for about 5 million people and to rebuild or relocate the towns and cities. It is said that it will cost about 9 billion yuan to build those 1 million prefabricated houses. The central government will pay 90 percent and ther other 10 percent is from the charitable organizations and the ministry of civil affairs. At present, the total production of the prefabricated houses is about 15000 but only 5000 can be assembled. In addition, the Tangjiashan quake lake was nearly to overflow last night. About 250000 people living in the downstream regions have been evacuated. So far, nearly 70000 people have died in the earthquake and 18000 have been missing. |

| All metal prefabricated housing makes sense. Quick assembly, fewer transportation problems, and more sturdy than wood construction. At 9000 yuan /unit, I wonder what the sq. meters are? |
