The reigning World Cup holders Italy was humiliated by Netherlands. Italy is prestiged by its solid defence, while during the match against Netherlands, Italy’s goalmouth guarded by Gianluigi Buffon was broken three times.

In the 26th minute, Holland’s striker Rudd van Nistelrooy scored an arguable goal to help the Netherlands lead.

An arguable goal by striker Ruud van Nistelrooy in the 26th minute put the Netherlands ahead and stirred the Stade de Suisse with whistles from fans of the Azzurri and cheers by the Oranje's supporters. Just five minutes later, t Wesley Sneijder improved the score board to 2-0. The 3-0 victory not only help the Dutch take an upper-hand in the Group of Death, but also break the curse that Netherlands have lost all the matches against Italy since 1978.

Italy's Christian Panucci (L) is challenged by Netherlands' Giovanni van Bronckhorst during their Group C Euro 2008 soccer match.
