![]() | Before the college entrance examinations, the Bureau of Education in Mian County of Shaanxi Province made a rule that the teachers shouldn't evacuate from the classrooms if the aftershock happens. No matter how dangerous it is, the teachers should evacuate the students first and those who break the rule will be suspended or sacked. However, some people object to this rule and say that it is unfair to the teachers and the bureau of Education should not use administrative means to force the teachers to perform the duty. What do you think of the rule, necessary or not? |

Shouldn't there be an emergency plan, especially in this area, that has been practiced over and over so that when an earthquake or aftershock occurs everybody knows what to do? I surely hope the teacher of my student doesn't desert them, but I don't expect every teacher to be able to keep a cool head in the face of chaos. A rule like this I think is very demoralizing for the teachers. Right idea, wrong implementation. Instead of putting the focus on the teachers, the focus should be on an evacuation plan. Of course the students should get out first, but if you know how and when that will be accomplished I think the teachers are more likely to follow. I've always been a proponent of leadership by example and encouragement instead of leadership by threats. |

At least, my high school didn't practice emergency evacuation when I was studying. After this earthquake, I believe that they have realized how important the evacuation is. People have been in peace for so long and they have dropped their caution. When the disaster comes, they aren't prepared and then a huge amount of people died. |
