![]() | As they say, it’s not what you know, it’s who you know. Both of my parents have some good connections to some very rich and powerful people, businessmen and politicians alike, but they never used that connection because they’re very proud people. They also don’t want to be in a situation where they couldn’t say no because they are indebted to a person. When I started looking for a job, I did it on my own, based on my own merits. I do not discount the benefits of using connections since I have seen those worked for other people, but there is some great satisfaction in knowing that I got hired because of my own ability, meaning with or without connections, I can make it. |

China has been a country highlighting connections (relationships) for a long history. Chinese idiom: 一人得道,鸡犬升天( yī rén dé dào,jī quǎn shēng tiān ) After a man is exalted to a high position in official circles, his relatives will be on his coattails. |

![]() | >>Do you have a rich dad? No, I don't. So I always tell myself: "you have no one to count on but yourself". That is it. I was enrolled in a key university and hunt for a job based on my own knowledge and ability. Certainly, my dad and my mum have been always behind me. I am deeply indebted to them for their kind words of advice and encouragement over the years. |
