"Kung Pao Chicken" 宫(gōng)保(bǎo)鸡(jī)丁(dīng) is the official translation of the Chinese dish. Beijing has offered restaurants an official English translation of local dishes. As the Olympic is forthcoming, Beijng tourism bureau told restaurants pick up a book with the suggested translations of Chinese dishes.

Some awkward translations have been modified.

An appetiser "husband and wife's lung slice" (丈(zhàng)夫(fu)和(hé)妻(qī)子(zi)的(de)肺(fèi)片(piàn)”) will be changed to "beef and ox tripe in chili sauce", “辣(là)椒(jiāo)油(yóu)调(diào)拌(bàn)的(de)牛(niú)百(bǎi)叶(yè)”

"Bean curd made by a pock-marked woman", 满(mǎn)脸(liǎn)雀(què)斑(bān)女(nǚ)人(rén)作(zuò)的(de)豆(dòu)腐(fǔ)”“麻(má)婆(pó)豆(dòu)腐(fu)" is a spicy Sichuanese dish. Now, the official name is “Mapo tofu".

“童(tóng)子(zǐ)鸡(jī)”previously translated as "chicken without sexual life". Now it becomes mere "steamed pullet".

Some Chinese don't like this new naming method, arguing that it abandons Chinese tradition.
