The author has given two situations: 1. The woman is not familar with that man. Or she has no feelings toward that man. Under these circumstances, she will go dutch with that man because she doesn't want to owe anything to that man. 2. She and he are lovers. Then she has made her plan to save money for her man and their future. Another possibility is that the woman has become the "landlord", taking charge of the finance. Having a look at my friends around me, those who have girl friends always pay the bill when dinning together with their GFs. It seems that it has become a convention.
