Hi, need some info and help... I will have 2 free time at Guangzhou on 9-10th July 2008. It will be 2 of us. Is it easy to do shopping at Guangzhou? i have been to Beijing last year but I do not know how to shop since they are giving us the calculator to demand. We end up just buying few organza tissue cloth and also we have been cheated where we thought that be bought stone sculptures but actually wax sculptures. We bought 14 items, only 5 boxes contains real stone, others are wax... What is the usual price for china silk per meter? Jade brooch and bangle? Bedsheet? Table cloth? or how mush usually we need to bargain? 50% of the price? Could anyone suggest easiest itinerary for me to travel by taxi around Guangzhou in the 2 days. Is it easy to get taxi from the attraction places? Thanks!

GUEST01124 | The Big Shopping Complexes are mostly in the same area. Easily travelled by subways, no need taxi. |

This community mainly for travel guide/help. Many business web site which may help for your purchasing. Cheating is every where is the world, so its your personal policy to over come these problems. Better to take help from the place (Hotel/guest house) where you stay.

Its a strange thing, where many are having problems in Guangzhou.I have had only two wallets stolen.(my own careless'ness.) I have a temper, and most can see it,an d when I am about to be cheated, and know it,I just demand in English,(not understood usually)that they just give me my money back. Some will try to cause a scene and I love it,and I admonish the would be cheater, and my money is returned.(These are the small businesses) The larger businesses I have no problems. Where I live in Guangzhou, there are real large fabric places,in one large area.Far as traveling,I will use the bus,and Metro, but prefer the bus.You can get fake chan ge from the taxis, and you have to be shrewd and count your change, and check your money for counterfeit bills. Some taxis will not take you where you want to go,or not the right way, without running up the tab.The busses and metro are at times very crowded, and take a long time from point a to b,yet other times they are very fast and two yuan is very cheap.

The correct word is "bargain" or "haggle", not "demand"!
