Coming to Shanghai to work
Jun 27, 2008 18:31
guest32186 Hi there. I'll be working in Shanghai in July but only weekends. Does anyine know how likely it is that I'll be able to visit Beijing through the week? I assume there are direct flights but how frequent, are they expensive and how long is the flight?

Any replies gratefully received. Thank you!

The amount of flights between Shanghai (both airports!) and Beijing is so numerous its almost funny. Also, lucky for you, they're quite cheap. You can probably get a good weekday flight for around 500-700 RMB (US$70-$100) one way. Not bad.

Your second equally as good option already mentioned is the train. There is a great daily rail service between Shanghai and Beijing and might even be cheaper than flying. I'm a bit sketchy on the ticket price details, but I do know that these trains are quite nice.

What a job working only on the weekends! Make sure you also check out Hangzhou an hour or two south of Shanghai. You're so close you might as well.

Yes, quite frequent. Flight itself takes about 2 hours, but figure on 2 hours each way to travel to/from airports, 1-1.5 hour for check-in, and some time for unforeseen delays.
"Expensive" is a relative concept so I don't know how I should answer you on that.
