| How long does it typically take to get a Chinse Z visa (I've heard everything from 4 days to 2 months) and what are they looking for in the visa process? Criminal record and credit rating or just making sure you have no major felonies and a real job lined up? My employer is filing the paperwork for me and I had to give them a letter of reference which, presumably, means they're not going to bother to call the phone references that I gave them...Just curious. Thanks! |

| They do not normally follow up the references, they simply require TWO recent open references. Criminal and credit records are not checked (for minor stuff, at least). As you must have a signed contract that says you must have a real job. Normally it takes only a few days and MUST be applied for outside the mainland. At the moment (Olympic terrorism mania) you will probably have to apply in your home country. The employer will obtain the necessary paperwork, then you apply for the visa. If you are asked to do the health form, just do the first part, the rest will be done in China (as part of residency application. Normal processing time is about 5 days, shorter can be done for a higher fee. The visa is for just one month, that's ok as the employer must use it to apply for a residency permit after you arrive. |
